State Senators Reception on Loan Forgiveness

invited members of the State Senate in New York City to meet with NASW-members on increasing the NYS Licensed Social Worker Loan Forgiveness Program by an additional $1 million.

The State of Black NY
The NYC Chapter Board of Directors examined and discussed a recent report, “The State of Black New York,” developed by the New York Urban League and the Black Equity Alliance. The report addresses a range of disparities affecting black New Yorkers and NASW-NYC has agreed to support the recommendations and help disseminate information of the report to the social work community.

A workshop that moves beyond a focus on the symptoms of racism to an understanding of what it is, where it comes from, how it functions, why it persists and how it can be undone.

Inspired in large part by the “Undoing Racism” Workshops in NYC, led by the People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond, this Call to Action identifies what individual social workers, schools of social work, and service agencies all need to do to address the effects of racism. Specific examples of how racism plays out in social work are included.

On-line Training
for Child Abuse Reporting
NASW-NYC recommends the on-line training provided by the New York State Nurses Association. The training meets the requirements for the Social Work Licensing law, it is a good value at $20, you will be able to download a certificate of completion immediately following the training, and a certificate will automatically be forwarded electronically to the State Education Department.
