Dear Colleague:

NASW-NYC has just published its first-ever electronic issue of the NASW-NYC newsletter, Currents.  The publication that we invite you to read represents an important stepping stone in NASW-NYC's movement into the electronic age.  Many organizations make decisions to "go green" with the intent of saving the environment, and we share that goal.  We are also very clear that by sending some of our issues electronically, we will be saving on printing and postage costs, which will allow us to use our limited funds for other top-priority activities.

This issue of Currents focuses on significant policy issues relating to licensure and the opportunities for change.  It is especially important that every social worker be familiar with these developments.  The newsletter also features the Emerging Leaders Award Dinner on December 3rd - an extraordinary, inspiring occasion that we want to share with you.

In making this issue of the newsletter electronic, we have preserved the regular features of Currents, and have arranged the layout to facilitate your ability to read the newsletter on your computer screen; for instance, the longer articles move from one page to the next, sequentially, for a more continuous reading experience, rather than articles being continued deeper in the newsletter.

We value and welcome your feedback; please feel free to contact me at kliever@naswnyc.org or at 212-668-0050.

Sincerely,

Launa

Launa Kliever

Editor & Associate Director

Institutional Racism & The Social Work Profession: A Call To Action

Inspired in large part by the “Undoing Racism” Workshops in NYC, led by the People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond, this Call to Action identifies what individual social workers, schools of social work, and service agencies all need to do to address the effects of racism.  Specific examples of how racism plays out in social work are included.
